We are proud to be a Blue Bio Value Ideation award winner!

We’re excited to share that FishInSight was selected as one of the winners of the Blue Bio Value Ideation Program 2023, promoted by the Oceano Azul Foundation and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in collaboration with Nova SBE and Porto Business School.

Developed by our team, Sónia Gomes, Marta Monteiro, and Mariana Ferreira – University of Porto and Nord University – FishInSight offers a new way forward for aquaculture research. Our in vitro intestinal model provides a more ethical, cost-effective, and faster alternative to live fish testing. By mimicking key aspects of the fish intestine, including epithelial cells, microbiota, and immune components, we enable early-stage screening of functional feed ingredients without the need for animal trials.

This recognition supports our goal of contributing to more sustainable, innovative, and responsible practices in aquaculture. It also aligns with the 3Rs principle — refine, reduce, replace — by helping minimise the use of animals in experimentation.

As part of the award, we received €5,000 and access to the Blue Demo Network, which will support us in further developing our technology and connecting with partners across the blue bioeconomy sector.
